'We just want it to stop': Former students sent seemingly used condoms and handwritten letters in mail

Dozens of students who attended a Melbourne high school during the late 1990s have received packages containing seemingly used condoms and handwritten letters addressed to their homes.

Former Kilbreda College student Bree was one of the first to receive the disturbing mail.

"I got a call from my mum late at night, saying she had found an odd letter in the mail addressed to me," she said.

"She opened it and her reaction was shock, and she was quite upset."

Police are now hunting for answers after the parcels were sent out to more than 65 women around the Bayside area – about 20 kilometres from the CBD – over the course of a three-month period.

The first incident was reported on March 20, with the most recent occurring on May 15.

Police suspect a student book containing home addresses that the women made in year 12 may have got into the wrong hands.

"Whether it's an ex-student, an ex-employee, we are not sure. It might be a brother or a partner," Senior Sergeant Grant Lewis said.

"It could be someone who found the book in the rubbish and thought it might have been a bit of a game."

Kilbreda College principal Nicole Mangelsdorf confirmed the incident today and said it was not related to any data breach at the college.

"(I am) appalled by this despicable act and condemn it in the strongest possible terms while offering support to any former student who needs it," Mangelsdorf said.

Bree described the act as "completely disgusting".

"We just want it to stop," she said.

"It's beyond a joke now."

The Bayside Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team are now appealing to the public for more information.

Most parcels contained condoms and letters but police did not reveal the notes' contents.

Most of the women who reported the horrific discovery have since received multiple letters, all containing seemingly used condoms.

Investigations are ongoing.
