Woman shot by police in DC riots reportedly an Air Force veteran

The woman who died during chaotic pro-Trump protests in Washington DC today has reportedly been identified as a US Air Force veteran and it has been confirmed she was shot by police.

Ashli Babbit was shot as the mob tried to break through a barricaded door in the Capitol and was hospitalised but later died.

Her husband confirmed her identity to San Diego outlet KUSI News.

Ms Babbitt served 14 years in the military, including four tours of duty.

Her husband reportedly claimed she was a fervent supporter of US President Donald Trump.

Ms Babbitt's Twitter account showed a devotion to the QAnon conspiracy theory, a belief that Donald Trump is secretly fighting a cabal of deep state Satanic pedophiles.

"They can try and try and try but the storm is here and it is descending upon DC in less than 24 hours....dark to light!" she wrote on Twitter shortly before her death.

In recent days she retweeted calls for Chief Justice John Roberts, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and former Deputy Attorney-General Rod Rosenstein to be arrested.

Three other people have died during the riots of medical emergencies, DC police have confirmed.

Mr Trump earlier egged on supporters who rallied in the US capital, claiming he would march with them.

However, he instead returned to the White House, as a huge crowd stormed the US Capitol.

Washington DC is now under curfew, with troops patrolling the streets.
