Every dog has its day, but Monday certainly wasn’t Blaze the coonhound’s.

Blaze’s owner left him for a few hours in his yard on Monday and returned home to find the pup with his head stuck in a tyre wheel, the Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department wrote on Facebook.

The eight-month-old pup was carefully rescued by members of the fire department using coconut oil, patience, ear tucking, and skin-pulling before Blaze was taken to “doggy hospital”.

“Some minor neck swelling was noted by the firefighters,” the department said.

“Blaze remained calm, cool, and collected throughout the ordeal; he did not make a sound.

“Hopefully this was a valuable lesson for young Blaze, and we won’t have to respond to any more menacing incidents involving this playful puppy.”

Local residents praised the work of the fire department, quick to label them “heroes”.

“Thanks for making Butte even better than it is,” one woman wrote.
