Police officers surprise boy who called 911 inviting them to Thanksgiving dinner

A Florida boy who dialled emergency services asking if local police could join his family for Thanksgiving dinner has been surprised by officers who actually turned up to offer their personal thanks.

In a post to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) Facebook page last week, the officer who happened to take “Billy’s” call is quoted as saying it left she and her colleagues smiling.

While officers were unable to attend the meal, they made sure to pay Billy a special visit, gifting him with a Sheriff’s badge and allowing him to sit in their patrol car.

The WCSO has expressed gratitude for Billy’s kind gesture, but also cautioned any youngsters considering following in his footsteps.

"We do not encourage this use of 911… (but) we are so honoured at the invitation,” the post reads.

"Thank you Billy for making all of our days here at WCSO."
