A car travelling behind the trailer had a dashcam, which captured the two solar panels as they were caught in a wind gust, with one flying past the front passenger side and the other slamming into that car's front grill.
Police believe the driver of the Mitsubishi Triton may not have realised they lost their load at the time but are now appealing for them to come forward as the registration number was not clear in the footage.
The driver of the other car was not seriously injured.
If anyone is able to identify the Mitsubishi or knows the driver, police ask they contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
