Firefighters injured in suspicious blaze that gutted Sydney unit block

Several firefighters have reportedly been injured after a roof collapsed at a blaze in western Sydney.

Emergency services were called to a unit complex on Halinda Street, Whalan, at about 9.50pm.

Police were first on the scene and raced into the burning building to evacuate residents from their apartments.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, but the complex was destroyed.

Several firefighters were injured when the roof caved in.

9news.com.au has contacted Fire and Rescue NSW for more information.

There were no reports of injuries among the residents.

The fire is being treated as suspicious, with investigators expected on the scene shortly.
