Unions condemn Qatar World Cup

A day after senior FIFA officials were arrested over corruption allegations, Australian trade union delegates have "red carded" the decision to hold the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The ACTU Congress in Melbourne voted on Thursday to condemn the move and call on FIFA to abandon the event unless workers were given decent conditions and the ability to organise unions.

The resolution was moved by the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union.
