Controversial plans for university fee deregulation are set to be debated in federal parliament.

After their introduction last week, the plans to deregulate university fees, extend commonwealth-supported places to private providers and raise the interest rate for student loans are listed to be debated in the lower house this week, possibly as early as Tuesday.

Education Minister Christopher Pyne has labelled the controversial budget measures the "greatest reforms of our time".

They face strong opposition from Labor, the Australian Greens and crossbenchers.
