Uber driver suspended after failing drugs test

Uber has removed one of its Sydney drivers after he failed a police roadside drug and alcohol test while carrying passengers.

Police stopped the driver, aged in his early 30s, on Tuesday afternoon at Artarmon, on the city's north shore, where he was tested for drugs and alcohol.

A NSW Police spokesman told nine.com.au that after he returned a positive reading the driver was taken to North Sydney police station.

His driving licence was suspended and further tests were carried out.

A spokesman for Uber told nine.com.au: "The safety of our riders and drive-partners is a top priority. As soon as we were made aware of this incident, we removed the partner from the platform [vehicle]."

The spokesman added that it was company policy to dismiss any driver who used drugs or alcohol while driving.

Police are awaiting the result of secondary tests on the driver.
