Stolen puppy found after being snatched from Melbourne pet store

A stolen Siberian Husky puppy has been returned safe and sound, after a group of teenagers stole it from a display case at a pet store in Melbourne’s CBD.

A 17-year-old boy handed the husky over at Broadmeadows Police Sation earlier this afternoon.

Police said five teenagers entered the store on Swanston Street at around 2.25pm on Monday July 11.

CCTV captured the group crowding the display case, before two of the men moved away and distracted staff.

One then opened the display case door and took two nine-week-old puppies, passing one to his friend before they left the store.

Staff noticed the robbery and demanded the dogs back, however they were laughed at by the group, who managed to leave with one of the puppies.

The store's owner, Joy Luo, said the robbery was distressing.

"It's a really, really bad day... They just took the dogs for fun and for no other purpose," Ms Luo said.

Sergeant Steve Higgins said the daytime robbery was brazen.

“It’s straight out theft, it’s a crime. That’s why we’ll be telling them it’s not funny,” he said.

No charges have yet been laid.
