Man fighting for life after suspicious house fire

A man is fighting for life after a house fire in Melbourne’s east this morning.

Emergency services were called to the Powelltown residence just after 9.20am following reports of a fire.

It's understood the roof of the single-storey homecaved in.

A man aged in his 40s suffered serious burns to his upper body, Ambulance Victoria told 9NEWS.

He was flown by helicopter to the Alfred Hospital and remains in a critical condition.

A second man, aged in his 50s, also sustained significant burns to his upper body, and is in a stable condition.

Paramedics also assessed a young girl for shock at the scene.

Investigators are now treating the blaze as suspicious.
