Two in five indigenous not electoral roll

At least two out of five indigenous people are not enrolled to vote, a new study shows.

The Australian Electoral Commission study, revealed in an auditor-general report released on Wednesday, found 42 per cent of indigenous people are not on the electoral roll.

The figure could be even worse, given that the AEC told the auditor it has "no definitive data on indigenous participation" including enrolment and voter turnout.

The broader enrolment rate across the country is 92.8 per cent.
