Two cars destroyed by fire in suspected arson attack at Connells Point, southern Sydney

Two cars have been gutted by fire at Connells Point in southern Sydney overnight, in what police believe was an arson attack.

A Lexus sedan and a white van were found ablaze on Queens Road about 1.30am (AEDT), NSW Police said in a statement.

Firefighters extinguished the inferno, but both vehicles were destroyed.

Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.

Initial investigations suggest the fire was deliberately lit, and police have appealed to the public for information.

Nobody was inside either of the cars at the time and police have not received any reports of injuries.
