The bodies of a man and woman have been found at a property south of Adelaide, in what police believe was a murder-suicide.

The bodies of the couple, in their 40s, were discovered on Friday afternoon at the property at Encounter Bay.

Superintendent Rob Williams told reporters police had attended the address previously because of domestic violence.

A daughter found her father's body in the laundry and contacted emergency services.

The woman's body was then found in the house.

Superintendent Williams described the scene as "gruesome" and said a weapon was used but would not reveal what it was.
