Two arrested after separate high speed chases across South Australia

Two people have been arrested after separate high-speed chases across regional South Australia.

Police were forced to spike the tyres of a stolen vehicle three times on the South Eastern Freeway, to end a pursuit that spanned more than 180 kilometres.

The Ford sedan, stolen across the border in Victoria, was involved in a petrol theft at Keith in the state’s south-east around 10pm yesterday.

An hour later, it was spotted travelling at high speed on the Princes Highway near Tailem Bend.

Officers didn’t pursue the car but deployed road spikes near Murray Bridge, shredding the vehicle’s back tyre.

The driver still refused to stop, with patrols forced to use road spikes another two times before the vehicle, that was driving on its rim, ground to a halt near Mt Barker around 11.30pm.

A 23-year-old woman, of no fixed address, was arrested at the scene. She has been charged with making off without payment, driving disqualified, drive dangerous, engage in police pursuit and unlawful possession.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old boy has been charged after a chase on the state’s west coast.

Police say he drove off from a Port Augusta petrol station without paying, after officers spotted him filling up a vehicle stolen from a home in Adelaide’s West on Monday.

The teenage driver refused to pullover and was pursued through Port Augusta on the towards Whyalla.

Police followed the car at a distance for 30 minutes until it did a U-turn and headed back towards Port Augusta.

Patrols were able to set up road spikes on the Lincoln Highway, puncturing two tyres of the Mazda.

The stolen car continued for a short distance before the teen dumped the car and fled, but he didn’t get far.

The 17-year-old from Seaton has been charged with illegal use, engage in a police pursuit, theft and driving while disqualified.
