Man charged after brawl erupts at Melbourne police station during stabbing investigation

A police officer has allegedly been assaulted at a police station in Melbourne's south east, after a group of men arrested in relation to a brawl and subsequent stabbing on the weekend started another fight inside the station.

Twelve men had been arrested on Monday after a brawl involving about 100 people in Seaford, south-east of Melbourne, resulted in at least one person being stabbed and fighting for life in hospital.

Police also seized baseball bats, a samurai sword and a machete, after the fight broke out outside Kananook Railway Station, on Wells Road, about 5.35pm on Sunday.

Yesterday at Frankston Police Station a number of men in addition to Monday's arrests were speaking to police in connection with the investigation when an argument broke out.

"Police attempted to break up the incident, however one of the men became violent towards the members," a police spokeswoman said.

Police said they were required to use OC spray to break up the fight. Two police officers suffered minor injuries.

A 25-year-old Seabrook man has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker and threatening behaviour.

The rest of the group being interviewed by police left the station without charge.

The people involved in Sunday's incident had just left a South Sudanese basketball tournament at Frankston Basketball Centre when the brawl started outside the train station.

During the fight, a 23-year-old man was stabbed multiple times in his abdomen and a group of unknown men took him to Frankston Hospital in a life-threatening condition.

He remains in hospital and is now in a stable condition.

The 12 men arrested over the brawl are aged between 19 to 32 and are from Melbourne's west, inner-north and south east.

All 12 men assisted investigators with their inquiries, with all but one of the men since released without charge.
