TV fire forces Melb apartment evacuation

Thirty residents of a Melbourne apartment block have been forced to evacuate their smoke filled building after a television caught fire.
A St Kilda couple heard a loud bang in the middle of the night and discovered their TV on fire.
All three levels of the apartment building were soon filled with smoke, forcing 30 residents to evacuate.

Six residents were treated for smoke inhalation, with two taken to the Alfred Hospital for observation.
Firefighters said every unit had a smoke alarm fitted and most residents were already evacuated when they arrived.
The fire was extinguished by 4am, with damage estimated at $50,000.
