The majority of voters in the affluent and safe Liberal seats of Wentworth and North Sydney support a global ban on new or expanded coal mines, a new poll shows.
Six out of 10 people in Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's eastern Sydney electorate would either support or "strongly support" the moratorium, according to a ReachTel survey of 694 Wentworth voters for the Australia Institute, Fairfax media reported on Friday.
In North Sydney, where a by-election is due before Christmas, 52 per cent of the 679 voters surveyed supported a moratorium on new coal mines.
