Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has agreed to provide a figure on how much greenhouse gas pollution would be generated by the burning of coal from Queensland's Carmichael mine.

Greens MP Adam Bandt on Thursday asked Mr Turnbull for the figure in the wake of federal environmental approval for Adani Group's thermal coal mine in the Galilee Basin.

"I am very happy to take the honourable member's question on notice and will do the calculation and let him know," Mr Turnbull said.
