Labor's Stephen Conroy breaks silence following police office raids

Labor frontbencher Stephen Conroy says Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull can stop the probe into allegedly leaked NBN documents if he wants to.

Speaking for the first time since the federal police raids into his office last week, Senator Conroy accused the NBN Co of protecting Mr Turnbull.

"So Malcolm Turnbull .... has through the NBN set the police on the whistleblowers who embarrassed him about the doubling in the costs," he told Sky News on Wednesday.

Asked to clarify whether he was accusing Mr Turnbull of pursuing the investigation, Senator Conroy said: "The NBN set it on to protect Malcolm Turnbull."

"He could stop it if he wanted to," he added.

However, the senior Labor figure accused Mr Turnbull of being the beneficiary of many leaks from inside the NBN when he was communications minister.

"I didn't - and the NBN didn't call the police at any stage."
