Truckie punched in Melbourne road-rage outburst

A horror road-rage incident has unfolded during peak-hour traffic at a busy Melbourne intersection.

Video shows a driver climbing out of his car and storming up the stairs of a truck about 6pm Tuesday, in Campbellfield.

He then rains blows on the truck-driver. His punches are so forceful that the truck's cab sways.

Another man joined him, also laying into the truck-driver, before falling from the truck's stairs and returning to his car.

All involved then drove off as the lights turned green, including the victim.

The truck-driver works for Bluestar Logistics, which could not be contacted for comment today. 

It's unclear what sparked the road rage, but whatever the cause, RACV is calling for calm on the roads.

"It is not acceptable for any driver to get aggressive on the road or violent, we just need to make sure that we're all staying calm and looking after ourselves and each other on the road," RACV's Melinda Spiteri said.

One in four Australians are expected to make a road trip this Christmas season, with a predicted 3.8 million cars on the road nationally.

Drivers have been urged not to let tensions boil over.
