Semi-trailer crashes through barrier on Hume Highway after crossing into oncoming traffic

A truck has crossed into oncoming traffic before rolling 30 metres down an embankment at Wilton, south of Sydney.

The semi-trailer was travelling north on the Hume Highway before it ran across the median strip into the southbound lanes and crashed through a barrier.

It then came to rest in on its side in a paddock, trapping the driver inside for some time.

The driver has been released from the vehicle and is on his way by road ambulance to Liverpool Hospital.

He is suffering from possible neck and chest injuries and is in a stable condition.

One of two southbound lanes are closed, with traffic queued more than 12 kilometres back to Narellan Road.

Emergency services are working to remove the truck from the paddock.
