Truck rollover causes traffic chaos on Sydney’s Northern Beaches

A truck rollover on Sydney’s Northern Beaches has caused traffic chaos, with the crash captured on CCTV.

The truck was carrying a shipping container packed tiles when it crashed just after 6am (AEDT), on the corner of Pittwater and Warringah Roads in Dee Why.

The driver was shaken but otherwise unhurt and has spoken with police.

Security video from a nearby business showed the truck wildly veer to one side before it tipped and slid along the road. 

All northbound lanes on Pittwater Road were closed after the crash, with drivers diverted to Warringah Road and advised to use Forest Way and Mona Vale Road.

One city-bound lane was also closed as traffic snaked for kilometres and emergency crews worked to clean up leaking fuel.

Buses are delayed up to 30 minutes through Brookvale and Dee Why due to the crash.

Warringah councillor Pat Daley was sitting in traffic about 30 metres ahead when the accident occurred.

"It is an absolute miracle there's been no loss of life," Mr Daley said.

The former police officer said "something needs to be done" about the notorious intersection.

The intersection was the site of another crash in October last year, when an out-of-control truck tipped over after hurtling down Warringah Road.

The truck hit eight cars and one woman suffered serious injuries.
