Lucky escape for driver after cattle truck rolls over

A Queensland truck driver is counting his luck after his rig rolled when a ute towing a trailer pulled out in front of him.

Dashcam footage from Jason Hoole’s truck driving in southern Queensland last Thursday shows the giant vehicle with its load of cattle rolling over.

Mr Hoole was lucky to escape serious injury after the accident on the Warrego Highway at Gatton, reports WIN News Toowoomba.

The video shows how the truck is travelling along the two lane highway and approaches a turn off. A white ute towing a trailer pulls out suddenly, not realising the truck is bearing down on it.

Mr Hoole attempts to move into the right lane, but the utility does the same, sparking disaster as the truck and its load rolls, slides along the road and finishes on its side.

Mr Hoole tells a reporter how he braced for the impact and was trapped inside the cab until nearby drivers stopped and helped to free him. Some of the cattle cargo had to be freed by emergency crews while others broke free and roamed the surrounding countryside.

Mr Hoole was lucky to escape with only minor bruising but the video shows him limping.

He ends the video by appealing to car drivers to show caution when they pull out in front of trucks.
