Former WA Liberal government treasurer Troy Buswell is facing six serious assault charges in an alleged case of domestic violence.

The former Vasse MP was arrested by officers from the Cold Case Special Crime Squad yesterday, accused of carrying out the attacks against his partner over several years.

Detectives travelled to search Mr Buswell's south west property on Wednesday, before arresting him overnight.

Another property in the Perth metropolitan area has also been searched in relation to the investigation.

Mr Buswell is facing three counts of aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm, three counts of aggravated common assault and one count of unlawful damage.

All attacks were allegedly against his current partner, between 2015 and 2019.

The 53-year-old was spotted leaving a lawyer's office in the city on Thursday, but when 9News spoke to him on the phone to ask him about the charges, he said he had no comment to make.
