A severe weather warning has been issued for the areas highlighted in yellow. (BoM)

Victoria's sticky weather will continue for a couple of days despite forecasts for heavy rain and strong winds.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) predicted winds as high as 120km/h in elevated areas and rainfall up to 50mm overnight and into tomorrow morning.

The high winds will also increase fire danger for the state's north, west and central areas.

Conditions will ease by the afternoon but won't change the hot, sticky forecast, senior forecaster Chris Godfred with the BoM said.

Melbourne is set for a high of 32C today, after an overnight low of 22C.

"We'll have to wait until Friday to get some proper respite for Victoria, where a change will bring some drier air," Mr Godfred said.

The humidity also brings with it the threat of thunderstorms, which could hit by tomorrow.
