Tropical Cyclone Alfred's course is still uncertain. Here's why and where it could go from here
Tropical Cyclone Alfred is still inching south, almost a week after it first formed off the Far North Queensland coast.
As of 2.30pm AEST (3.30pm AEDT), it was sitting 930km off Mackay and slowly moving south as it built up steam.
But whether it will actually hit the Queensland coast is still unknown.

The Bureau of Meteorology explained this afternoon that "multiple steering influences could possibly impact Alfred".
The Bureau of Meteorology's senior meteorologist Dean Narramore said there was "deep and strong convection in the atmosphere around the cyclone".
"The system is organised, and the environment is conducive for further development as we get through tonight and tomorrow."
There are roughly three groups of scenarios the BoM's modelling has predicted.
"Some of those scenarios grab a high-pressure system over NSW, which could push the system towards the Queensland coast, increasing winds and rainfall along our coastal communities," Narramore said.
"Other scenarios have this system coming further south, parallel to the Queensland coast.
"Other systems have an upper trough grabbing Tropical Cyclone Alfred and pulling it further away from the Queensland coast."

While still far from Queensland's shores, the cyclone is set to bring gusty winds tomorrow, and isolated showers throughout coastal communities from Hamilton Island to the NSW border.
As Alfred moves further south on Friday and Saturday, it could whip up large swells at sea.
Tides exceeding the usual highest astronomical tide could be seen in coastal areas.
Anyone living along the Queensland coast is advised to stay up to date with the latest forecasts.
The BoM will continue to release tracking maps every six hours.
