Triggs staying put as human rights chief

Human Rights Commission president Gillian Triggs is staying put despite calls for her resignation from senior government ministers.

Strident criticism of her by Prime Minister Tony Abbott and cabinet ministers George Brandis and Peter Dutton was an attempt to divert attention from the commission's work, Professor Triggs believes.

"Were I to succumb to this highly-personalised response to the work of the commission, that would undermine the independence of the commission," she told ABC radio on Friday.
