Footy player 'Moe Joe' Allouche mourned after fatal on-field heart attack in Melbourne

A young Australian Rules football player who died after suffering a heart attack on the field yesterday has been remembered as a "lovable giant".

Family, friends and teammates are in shock after Northern Saints Football Club player Mohamed Ali Jamil Allouche, known as Moe Joe, collapsed after kicking a goal during the game at Fawkner, in Melbourne's north, yesterday.

The 22-year-old was rushed to hospital but died shortly after.

Club president Mick Caruso has paid tribute to his fallen player, News Corp has reported.

"He was a big character and a lovable giant," he said.

"He was really passionate about his footy and he loved his team mates and the club he played for."

The Herald Sun reports the former Coburg Senior High School student had turned his life around in 2013 after losing weight.

In a “before and after” picture Mr Allouche posted Facebook, he wrote he finally “woke up to myself”.

“Haven’t felt happier about myself ... hard work always pays off!”
