Apprentice chef accused of stabbing man in the neck to remain in custody

An apprentice chef accused of stabbing a man in the neck will remain in custody after being arrested and charged earlier this week.

Travis John Scorer, 43, of Fortitude Valley, made a brief appearance in Brisbane Magistrates Court today to face one charge of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

Emergency services were called to an address in the inner Brisbane suburb of New Farm about 7.30pm on Monday night following reports that a man had suffered a stab wound to the neck, according to a Queensland Police statement.

The 44-year-old local man was transported in a serious but stable condition to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

Scorer, described in court documents as an apprentice chef, was charged yesterday over the alleged attack and was refused police bail in the lead-up to the court appearance.

Legal Aid duty lawyer Helen Shilton told the court that Scorer would not be applying for bail.

"I have taken his application for (Legal) Aid so I'll only be seeking an adjournment of perhaps four weeks and I'll organise, hopefully, a lawyer," Shilton said.

Scorer, who appeared in a detainee's uniform of a green long-sleeved T-shirt and tracksuit pants with no shoes, did not say anything except to confirm his identity and that he understood the court process.

Magistrate Michael Wood adjourned the matter until February 12 with Scorer remanded in custody to appear via videolink.

"No doubt Legal Aid will be in contact with you. Please co-operate with them," Wood told Scorer before he was taken back to the watch house.
