Traffic heavy, hundreds left without power after car smashes into pole in Perth

Traffic in Perth’s Kewdale area is likely to be affected for some time after a car ploughed into a power pole just before 4am this morning.

The 18-year-old driver and her 19-year-old passenger were driving along Wright Street when their silver Mitsubishi sedan ploughed through a home’s front fence and into a power pole, upending it from the ground.

They were uninjured but were assessed by paramedics and taken to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment.

Police have advised delays are likely along Wright Street at Armadale Road for “some time” as they investigate the circumstances of the crash.

Wright Street is closed in both directs from Kooyong Road to Armadale Road.

More than 1000 homes were left without power in the hours after the crash, which has dropped to around 708 affected customers, according to Western Power.

WA Police have not confirmed whether the car was stolen, but say they are in discussion with the car’s owner.

No charges have been laid.
