Five teenagers have been charged after passengers were robbed by a gang of teens on a Townsville bus.

CCTV shows a group of young boys and girls aged between 12 and 16 on board a bus that was waiting to leave an inner-city shopping centre last Wednesday.

The teens allegedly stole money and valuables from passengers before assaulting the bus driver and stealing his till.

"These aren't crimes born out of anything other than the personal satisfaction of these young people," Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Miles said.

"These young people need to be held to account for their actions."

It's alleged at least one member of the same gang was responsible for the robbery of a convenience store shortly afterwards.

Police expect to lay more charges in the coming days.
