Tougher laws for multinationals to pay tax

The federal government's measures to claw back tax from multinationals have been introduced to parliament.

Assistant treasurer Stuart Robert says the draft laws ensure multinationals cannot artificially avoid a taxable presence in Australia or shift profits overseas, while also increasing penalties for breaches of tax reporting obligations.

"We will not be resting on our laurels when it comes to making sure multinationals pay their fair share of tax," Mr Robert said on Thursday.
