Australia's highest-ranked universities named for 2024
Year 12 students across the country have just finished their exams, and the decision about where to go to university is looming for thousands. A new ranking from the Australian Financial Review has sorted the universities in Australia on their research, teaching, career outcomes and equity.

19 - La Trobe University
From the 40 institutions ranked by the AFR, La Trobe was ranked in equal 19th place.
19 - Griffith University
Griffith University was also ranked 19th place.
15 - University of Newcastle
Four universities tied for 15th place, including the University of Newcastle
15 - The University of South Australia
Also making 15th place was the University of South Australia.
15 - Swinburne University of Technology
Swinburne University of Technology was also ranked fifteenth, with a slightly higher rank for teaching and research.
15 - Flinders University
Flinders University was also ranked 15th.
13 - University of Technology Sydney
In joint 13th place was the University of Technology Sydney.
UTS was ranked 9th in the country for research but lost points for equity of access on the Australian Financial Review's research.
13 - Edith Cowan University
Edith Cowan University in WA was ranked second for teaching strength but lagged behind in research and career outcomes.
It was ranked joint 13th.
12 - Macquarie University
Macquarie University came in 12th place, with strong career outcomes for its students.
