The 10 most humid local government areas in Australia
This summer threatens to be one of the most humid on record as warm bands of moisture collide with the traditional heat of summer.
But not all areas will feel as humid.
These are the local government areas that will feel the stickiest, according to a report by Alliance climate control.
10. Ipswich, Queensland
This urban centre in south Queensland came in tenth on the list, with an average moisture content of 13.2kg.
Located just outside of Brisbane, Ipswich enjoys a sub-tropical climate, with dry, mild winters and hot. wetter summers.
9. Brisbane, Queensland
Queensland's capital is the ninth most humid LGA in Australia, with an average moisture content of 14.5kg, tied with the next three rankings.
Inhabited by over 5.2 million people, Brisbane enjoys mild weather for most of the year with a subtropical climate.
8. Gold Coast, Queensland
This southeast coast paradise makes the most-humid list with an average moisture content of 14.5kg.
The Gold Coast has a subtropical climate with an average of 300 days of sunshine per year.
6. Sunshine Coast, Queensland
This coastal Queensland attraction boasts an average moisture content of 14.5kg.
5. Fraser Coast, Queensland
The Fraser Coast LGA, which encompasses Hervey Bay, Maryborough, and K'gai on Queensland's south coast, comes in fifth on this list at 15.9kg of moisture in the air on average.
3. Cairns, Queensland
Unsurprisingly, the Cairns LGA in northern Queensland falls third on this list.
With an average moisture content of 17.7kg, this tropical city is a balmy and mild place to live.
The majority of Cairns' rainfall is in summer, between the months of January and March.
2. Townsville, Queensland
This northern Queensland beachside city ranks second on the list, with an average moisture content of 17.7kg.
Like many areas of north Australia, Townsville has a tropical climate, with distinct wet and dry seasons.
1. Darwin, Northern Territory
Darwin is Australia's most humid LGA, with an average air moisture content of 19.2kg.
It's also the only place on this list not in Queensland.
Darwin has a tropical climate with a distinct dry season from May to October and wet season from November to April.
During the wet season, humidity levels can hit upwards of 80 per cent.
