Two charged in relation to Toowoomba stabbing granted bail

Two of nine people arrested following the death of a Toowoomba mother have been granted bail.

Debbie Combarngo, 37, died in hospital after being stabbed in the chest at a unit in Wilstonton.

Nine people, aged between 23 and 34, were arrested at a nearby fast food restaurant. They include Lynn Fay Jean Anderson, Shiralee Fernando, Ashley Aaron Fing, Rhianna Jade Fing, Ty Peter Fing, Christine Maree Hall, Jana Leigh Hall, Rhonda Ann Hall and Joshua James Lingwoodock.

They were each charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of entering a dwelling with intent over their alleged involvement in the violent home invasion that preceded Combarngo's death.

So far, no murder charges have been laid. Yesterday the prosecutor told the court the investigation was ongoing and some of the accused could have their charges upgraded to murder, depending on the results of an autopsy.

Jana Hall and Rhianna Fing have been released on bail, while the remaining seven will remain in custody until their next court appearance.

Acting Magistrate Robert Walker said the prosecution's case against the two women was not strong in its current form, "placing them both at the scene but not in the room where the violence occurred".

Both the women are mothers and Ms Hall is four-and-a-half months pregnant.

Today in court the magistrate questioned whether Ms Hall had "her kids in the forefront of her mind at the time of the incident".

The court heard a range of weapons were used to bash Combarngo including a golf club, hammer and metal poles before she was stabbed in the chest.

A family member who did not want to be identified told 9NEWS there was “more to the story” after a relative unexpectedly died more than a fortnight ago.

It’s understood detectives are now looking at whether Combarngo’s death is related to the death of Michael Hall, whose funeral was held yesterday.

All nine accused will return to court in July.
