Government offering $1000 credit to celebrate new toll on M4

Motorists using the M4 in Sydney will be in the running for a special credit on their E-toll account to celebrate the opening of new lanes on the motorway.

The NSW Government today reinstated tolls on a stretch of the western Sydney motorway from Parramatta to Homebush, costing $1.77 to $4.56 each way for cars and motorbikes, or $5.30 to $13.67 for trucks and other heavy vehicles.

It is the first time tolls have been placed on the M4 since 2010.

To soften the blow for motorists who had gotten used to not paying a toll on the M4, the government announced  a competition offering one person a $1000 credit on their E-toll account.

But there might not actually be that many drivers who are eligible.

Going by this morning's traffic, most people bypassed the toll point, instead getting off at Church Street, where there were long delays.

The government won't be taking too much from today, it says it will take drivers time to get used to the changes and it hopes patterns will even out over coming months.
