'Tokenistic' Muslim dinner cancelled

Federal police have cancelled a harmony dinner with members of the Muslim community to mark the end of Ramadan.

If follows an online petition by a group calling themselves "Concerned Muslims" calling for a boycott the Eid dinners organised by the Australian Federal Police.

The petition branded the dinners a "tokenistic" attempt at creating an image of cooperation, harmony and trust following a "prolonged campaign of anti-Muslim hysteria".

The AFP in a statement on Tuesday said it would no longer hold the Sydney dinner planned for July 21, but would convene an alternative event at a later date.
