A toddler is recovering in hospital after being bitten by a tiger snake in Melbourne’s north-west.

At about 1pm today, Huxon was playing in his backyard while his parents mowed the lawn at their Jersey Drive home in Sunbury.

A tiger snake approached the two-year-old, biting him on his calf.

He was taken to Sunshine Hospital in a stable condition and will be kept under observation for the next two days.

The toddler is the fourth person to be bitten by a snake in Victoria in the last 24 hours.

Earlier this month, a teenage boy was attacked by a snake at his home in Horsham.

Authorities are urging people to be careful outdoors as the warmer weather means more snake sightings in residential areas.
