Today reporter given Drag King makeover ahead of Mardi Gras

Today reporter Gabrielle Boyle said "it's going to be a big weekend" after her transformation into Drag King Gavin Royale.

The Sydney journalist spent the morning covering preparations for this weekend's Mardi Gras celebrations which will see thousands of locals and out of town guests hit the streets in their brightest, most flamboyant get-ups.

So of course being around all the glitz and glamour, Gabrielle couldn't resist undergoing a little makeover herself.

"What do you reckon guys, do I look handsome?" she asked Karl and Sarah.

"It's usually Gabby Boyle but I reckon today I am Gavin Royale."

Gabrielle (or Gavin) applauded all the people who came along to help her showcase what to expect from tomorrow night's celebration along Sydney's Oxford Street and said she "was just blown away" by the level of effort and enthusiasm in the crowd.

"They've all got up bright and early to come and give us a bit of a preview of what's happening here tomorrow night and I tell you what, there is a one guarantee, it is set to be a cheeky weekend."
