It was a packed few days at an orchard in the NSW Blue Mountains over the Easter long weekend as families visited to pick fresh produce.

But one visitor to the Bilpin Fruit Bowl stood out a little more than the other guests.

While everyone was picking apples down below, an adventurous wallaby hopped onto the netting above and had a snoop at what was going on below.

Orchard owner Margaret Tadrosse told Today the orchard regularly had wallabies and kangaroos visiting the surrounding farmland, but this was a first.

"We couldn't believe it, it's something we've never seen - to see it up above was amazing," she said.

Margaret said the wallaby jumped around the netting for a little while, much to the delight of onlookers, then just hopped back down and took off back into the neighbouring national parklands.

But not before it did some damage to the protective netting up above.

"There was a fair bit of damage, the long claws ripped a lot of holes in the net and that's fairly new - we just replaced it after the bushfires of 2019," she said.

"So we've just got to go back and repair it again now, but you know that's part of being on a farm."
