A 30-year hunt for Priscilla, Queen of the Desert could finally be at an end, with South Australia eager to have the iconic piece of Australian film nostalgia returned from up north.

The SA government has offered to chip in $100,000 of an estimated $1 million it will cost to restore the 1976 Hino freighter bus to its former glory, after it became the star of the award-winning 1994 film starring Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce and Terrence Stamp.

And with plans to house the bus at the National Motor Museum in Birdwood once fully restored, Adelaide reporter Tom Rehn had the perfect way to celebrate.

"When we get to that stage I'm thinking Karl, you can come over and you and I will re-enact the famous scene on top of the bus," Tom suggested to Today host Karl Stefanovic.

"We'll get all dressed up, what do you say?"

But steering away from giving a definite answer, Karl and his co-hosts decided to instead get into the groove as Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive, a hit from the film's soundtrack, started to play.

"We're going to pick this up from the start, if anyone has it in them, it is Tom Rehn," Brooke Boney said as the song started up.

Tom was definitely in a Friday mood, with his arms pumping and hips swivelling almost immediately to the beat.

And of course we all know Tom likes to wear shorts on the bottom half when he is live on Today, so viewers were treated to another glorious look at his pins as he danced away.

"He dances like a frisky peacock," Karl laughed.
