Mango season is officially here and with summer just days away, what better way to cool off than indulging in the juicy tropical fruit?

Tim Davies was lucky enough to visit Townsville this morning and meet some of the local growers and sample their produce.

But when Timmy tried out a new way of eating the humble mango, things quickly went pear-shaped for the Today weather presenter.

Like most of us, Timmy usually slices, scores and flips the mango skin to eat the flesh.

But today he learned about slicing it across the short end and also eating it "monkey style", by peeling the skin back.

Brendan Abel, from fruit and vegetable wholesaler, Simon George and Sons, also introduced Timmy to the dragon tooth mango, or mahi bliss, a skinny long version of the fruit.

"We're going to squash it, then we're going to get it all like a smoothie inside and you're going to bit the top off," Brendan explained as he and Timmy rolled the fruit in their palms.

As soon as Timmy bit the tip, juice sprayed everywhere, leaving everyone back in the Today studio in hysterics.

"Oh I've blown already," Timmy laughed with juice dripping down his chin.

"Are you sure that's how you eat these? I feel like Brendan's leading me astray here."

But Brendan assured Timmy he was doing it correctly and he devoured his fruit, much to Karl and Sarah's delight.

"Oh, it must be really juicy," Sarah laughed.

"It's not his first rodeo, oh my goodness he's gone back for more," Karl added.
