Students launch Vegemite toast into space
A group of students from the University of Technology, Sydney have launched two pieces of Vegemite toast into space. Accompanying the toast was a GoPro camera which documented the pioneering journey.
The students wanted to show that space is a frontier Australia can crack. "What better way to show that Aussies can do this than by having something so iconic up there," UTS student and project manager Gavan Huang told Today.

The group launched the Vegemite toast from the New South Wales town of Muswellbrook. The toast was in orbit for 90 minutes before descending into Barrington Tops, landing in farmer's yard.
"We had to knock on the farmers door and say 'Hey, our Vegemite toast from space landed in your back yard, can we get it back,'" said Huang.
Video of the toast's journey into space has been streamed across the globe, sparking both support and also criticism – namely about how much Vegemite the group smeared on the toast.

"Gavin, there's just way too much Vegemite on that toast!" Ben Fordham told the project manager.
"I think you guys are weak," he rebutted.
"We think it's perfect," Harry Roth, the project's filmmaker, confirmed.
Whether or not you think it's too thick, Vegemite toast pioneering space is an image Australia is on board with.
"Australian exploration into space is something we're really excited about," Roth said.
