Stephen Sanchez reveals secret behind his old school sound

Ever since the release of his 2021 hit song Until I Found You, Stephen Sanchez's star has continued to rise, with the performer currently in Sydney for the Australian leg of his Angel Face tour.

His '50s rock-pop sound has built Sanchez a massive fanbase around the world, ever since that debut single went viral on TikTok, hitting over a billion streams since its release.

But the 21-year-old revealed to Today that wasn't originally the style of music he was producing when he first started out.

"When I was first starting out, nothing was really going for me just yet and then I kind of went totally left of field with that song and I tried writing it in that '50s style," he said.

"It's just cool to see how many people have connected with that, even though it's got sounds from a different time, it's a testament to that."

While the sound which is now synonymous with Sanchez isn't what he started with, it is in no way something "new to him".

The Nashville native grew up listening to old vinyl records of Roy Orbison, Elvis, Buddy Holly and Frank Sinatra on his grandparents' farm.

And while Angel Face showcases how well that old time rock 'n' roll style suits him, a new re-release of the album with bonus tracks really gives listeners an idea of how talented and how versatile he really is.

In fact, The Beach Boys themselves actually reached out to Sanchez during the European leg of his tour, asking him to record a new original song, Baby Blue Bathing Suit, for their new self-titled Disney Plus documentary.

"We filmed the video clip at the beach at North Curl Curl," he said.

"It was beautiful, I was just mad I couldn't go out and surf with everybody else."
