She may be a loud and proud Melburnian at heart, but Sarah Abo hit the journalism jackpot, getting to sing atop the Sydney Harbour Bridge with none other than "Tina Turner" herself.

The Today host caught up with Ruva Ngwenya, the young Aussie taking on the role of a lifetime playing the 'Proud Mary' singer in Sydney's new production of Tina: The Tina Turner Musical.

So what better location to do their interview (and test Sarah's vocal range) than high above the iconic harbour.

"Here we are on top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and you are recreating one of the most iconic Tina Turner moments," Sarah said.

Turner famously sang her hit song '(Simply) the Best' on the Sydney landmark back in the early '90s as part of a major advertising campaign for the NRL.

"It's incredible, I cannot believe this is my life - it is so special," Ruva said.

The 30-year-old got to meet Turner when she flew to London recently following her casting and said the singer's advice gave her confidence to do the role justice.

"Her words of encouragement were to bring the soul and bring the flavour that I have inside me to the role of Tina, 'Tina is yours, Ruva, to take and make it your own, which I'm sure you're going to do,'" Ruva said.

"That for me, is the confidence I need to step into such massive shoes."

Sarah then followed Ruva's lead with their own rendition of '(Simply) the Best', much to the delight of fellow bridge climbers.
