How Sarah found the big move from 60 Minutes to Today

Sarah Abo has revealed it was a big adjustment leaving her role as an investigative journalist for 60 Minutes to become the new co-host of Today.

While Channel Nine's flagship current affairs program often gives its reporters the luxury of longer-form journalism, being part of Australia's most talked about morning news program is a whole different ball game.

"On 60 minutes you sit down for an interview for an hour, for example, whereas you move over to Today and it's live television," Sarah said.

"You've got an interview for a maximum five or six minutes, sometimes you might get a 10-minute interview, but that's the longest stretch - most of the time it's three minute interviews and you've got to communicate a lot of information in that period."

An example of how tricky it can be with that limited time is the Hunter Valley bus crash this year which saw 10 people tragically killed.

"We are there broadcasting live to a nation and we need to bring them the information, to communicate what's happened and often people are waking up and hearing news for the first time from us," Sarah said.

"So there's a huge responsibility that comes with that."

For viewers, the 38-year-old's transition has been more or less seamless, but a lot of that comes down to her co-host, Karl Stefanovic, who Sarah has high praise for despite his sometimes cheeky antics.

"He is such a seasoned broadcaster, he's so experienced and I think he's able to impart that experience on all of us really every day," she said.

"We have a lot of fun together, we have a lot of laughs together, but we're able to take the serious stories very seriously and that's a really special role that we will never take for granted and that we appreciate every single day."
