How Paris has prepared for the 2024 Olympics

The stadiums are built, the Seine is clean and the stage is set for athletes around the world (but mainly Australia) to win gold at Paris 2024.

In just over four days, the city will play host to the greatest sporting spectacle the world has ever seen, although it actually all began 10 years ago.

Today's Karl Stefanovic hit streets of Paris to explore what the great city has to offer and how it has prepared for the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad.

Paris submitted its bid to the International Olympic Committee in 2015, with the city vying to host its third Olympics 100 years after its last Games in 1924.

"But, for these Olympics, the plan was ambitious," Karl said.

"Fewer venues, emissions cut in half, a party like never before."

The city's iconic landmarks will be used as arenas with a budget of A$7.3 billion.

Volleyball will be played beneath the Eiffel Tower, equestrians will compete at the Palace of Versailles and BMX and skateboarding will take place at the Place de la Concorde.

For the first time, Paris will host the Opening Ceremony on the Seine, with 94 boats travelling 6km down the river and carrying 10,000 athletes.

The Olympians will spend their time in the athletes' village which cost an estimated A$2.4 billion to build and will house 14,250 people during the next few weeks.

"We are on the eve of a truly modern Olympics," Karl said.

"11.3 million people will flock to the city to watch history in the making and it will be a show we'll never forget - to watch history in the making is going to be something very special about these Games."
