'Ugly' public toilet sparks anger in posh Sydney suburb

A new public toilet in Sydney's inner eastern suburbs has been labelled an abomination, with some suggesting it would be better suited in the city's west.

With Allianz Stadium a short walk away, Paddington locals were having a major problem with inebriated sporting attendees relieving themselves in front yards of the affluent suburb.

So to help put a stop to the smelly problem, local council installed a large grey public toilet block along Oxford Street.

However, residents have since taken to online community pages to slam the new addition as too modern, too ugly and not fitting in with the heritage look of the area.

In fact, some social media users who live in the area have even been bold enough to suggest it would be better suited in an area more like Blacktown, in western Sydney.

But the remark has angered a lot of people, including Blacktown MP, Chris Bowen, who took to social media to defend his electorate.

"Blacktown isn't a derogatory term, it's a vibrant, exciting community that I'm proud to get the opportunity to represent along with my colleagues Michelle Rowland MP and Ed Husic MP," Bowen said in a statement on his official Facebook page.

"Sydney is one city, we don't need you running down the million people who live in Western Sydney."

The Today team backed what Bowen said, suggesting if it was a choice between an ugly public toilet and people urinating or pooing in your yard, they know which they'd prefer.
