Opposition calls Albanese Kylie comments 'disrespectful to all women'

Anthony Albanese has apologised, days after controversy surrounding the Prime Minister’s crude remarks about Australian singer, Kylie Minogue.
Albanese appeared on the Bush Deep podcast with comedian Nikki Osborne, where he played a game of “shag, marry, date”, answering he would do “all of the above” with Minogue.

The response was met with immediate public backlash, with the Prime Minister’s appearance on the podcast being labelled “cringeworthy” and “inappropriate”.
“I think the Prime Minister needs to remember he’s not a social media influencer, he is not a celebrity and if he wants to do comedic podcasts like these, he should set some reasonable boundaries and he should refuse to engage in the kind of banter that he did in this podcast,” Shadow Defence Minister James Paterson told Today.
“It’s disrespectful to the women involved, but it’s disrespectful to all Australian women, they don’t want to be spoken about like this by their Prime Minister and it diminishes the office of the Prime Minister.”
Paterson said it was appropriate for Albanese to apologise for his remarks, but said he was unsure why it took 48 hours for that apology to come to fruition.
“We really do have the right to expect more from our leaders, this sort of embarrassing, really cringy sort of engagement with social media commentators doesn’t reflect well on the Prime Minister,” Independent MP Monique Ryan added.
“It doesn’t reflect well on our administration and we’d really like to see better from leaders on both sides in the future.”
